HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council made a significant decision tonight. They approved 12 annual licenses for mobile food vendors, an increase from the previous limit of six. These new licenses will start in 30 days.
Interestingly, if someone wants to set up a food pod, there’s no limit to how many mobile vendors they can have. The licensing rules for food pods differ from those for individual vendors.
Some council members mentioned that if the demand arises, they might consider lifting the cap on licenses altogether in the future. This shows their willingness to adapt based on community needs.
The council also greenlighted the sale of 10 acres in the South Hermiston Industrial Park (SHIP). The city had purchased about 44.4 acres in 2024 for $41,175.28 per acre, and they’re selling this 10-acre piece for $650,000. This area is planned for light industrial development, which will initially include a 30,000 square foot facility, with potential expansion to 95,000 square feet. The identity of the buyer wasn’t disclosed during the meeting. All profits from this sale will go back into the utility fund, supporting city services.
