ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – NM State made a strong showing at the Don Kirby Twilight event, hosted by the University of New Mexico. The team achieved three event wins and 18 top-five finishes, showcasing their talent as they gear up for the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In the women’s events, Kamryn Cadle led the way with a first-place finish in the hammer throw, throwing 52.04 meters. Julia Nystrand and Samonne Cauley rounded out an all-Aggie podium.
Samonne also impressed in the shot put with a personal best of 12.55 meters, securing second place, while Avery Jordan followed closely in third. Meanwhile, Aileen Alvarado continued her strong season with a second-place finish in the high jump at 1.61 meters.
Alesha Lane dominated the discus, winning with a throw of 51.88 meters. Avery Jordan and Elli Breckenridge followed, both achieving top-five finishes in that event as well.
In the 800 meters, Adéla Steinsová captured second place with an altitude-adjusted time of 2:12.59. Amanda Radava shone in the 1500 meters, finishing first with a time of 4:28.45, marking her fourth top-five finish this season.
In the men’s category, Jonah Archer kicked off the night with a new personal best of 10:06.65. Orion Chavez made a solid debut in the 800 meters, finishing seventh, while fellow teammates Angel Maese and Nick Allred wrapped up the top ten with solid times.
Derick Castellanos led in the 1500 meters, coming in eighth with a time of 4:09.32. Omer Ibrahim competed for the first time this season and finished strong at 4:15.12.
As the season progresses, athlete performance is key. According to the NCAA, a majority of track athletes improve their times as they gain more experience outdoors.
