Exciting Highlights from O’Gorman and Shepherd at the RADD Sports Collegiate Invitational – UNF Athletics Shines!


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida track and field team kicked off the RADD Sports College Invitational with impressive performances in both the men’s 3000m and women’s high jump on Friday.

In the men’s 3000m, Aidan O’Gorman led the pack. He finished first with an impressive time of 7:56.48. He also secured a win in the mile race. His teammates, Ilias El Khattabi, Onix Ortiz, and Gavin O’Brien, followed closely, finishing in the top five and showcasing the Ospreys’ strength in this event.

On the women’s side, Nicole Shepherd shone brightly by winning the high jump with a jump of 1.70m. Teammates Drea Thompson and Renske Drenten rounded out a great team effort by taking third and fourth places respectively.

Men’s Events Highlights:

  • O’Gorman set a record in the 3000m and performed well in the mile.
  • In the mile, Aiden Arnold placed second, while Ben Tary came in eighth.
  • Rey Hernandez finished third in the 400m with a time of 49.22.

Women’s Events Highlights:

  • Emma Jane O’Gorman and Ana Markovina took home second and third in the mile.
  • Gabby Johnson grabbed third in the 400m, while Celine D’Anna and Melissa Epting also made strong finishes.
  • Johnson placed seventh in the 200m, contributing to a solid day for the women’s team.

Coach’s Comments:

Jeff Pigg praised the team’s effort, saying, “This meet was a great step for our program. The jumpers did well, and having Nicole and Drea has bolstered our high jump lineup. It was a good day for both the men and women, with several personal records and strong finishes.” He looked forward to the next day, hoping for more strong races from the sprinters and 800 runners.
