Get ready for some festive fun in Eureka! Here’s a list of events happening this month that you won’t want to miss.
Santa’s Arrival
Santa Claus will make a cheerful entrance on a Humboldt Bay Fire truck in Old Town Eureka. Join him at the Gazebo on Friday at 2 p.m. He’ll be there until 4 p.m. On Saturday, you can catch him at the California Welcome Center from 6 to 9 p.m. during Arts Alive!
Marsh Tours
Love nature? Join a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary, led by Barbara Reisman. It’s on Saturday at 2 p.m., meeting at the Interpretive Center. This 90-minute walk will explore the local plants, rain or shine. For info, call 707-826-2359.
You can also join a guided bird-watching tour on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. with the Redwood Region Audubon Society. Bring your binoculars and meet at Klopp Lake for a morning of amazing views and birdwatching.
Snowball Drop
Eureka will host a fun “Snow Ball Drop” on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Gazebo. Catch a snowball, head to a local business, and redeem a prize!
Nature Journaling
Join Lynn Jones for a “Nature Journaling at the Marsh” session on Sunday at 10 a.m. It’s a great way to connect with nature—no registration needed, just show up at the Interpretive Center. FOAM will provide clipboards and colored pencils. It’s open to all ages, but be ready to focus quietly for a while.
Dance Party
If you love to dance, head to the Moose Lodge on Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Enjoy live music and a great floor for just $9.
Arts and Crafts Discovery Day
On December 6, visit the Cal Poly Humboldt Natural History Museum for a “Nature Arts and Crafts Discovery Day” from noon to 4 p.m. You’ll create suncatchers, painted rocks, and more for $6, or $3 if you’re a member. Kids with adults get in free!
Community Craft Fair
Also on December 6, the United Congregational Christian Church will host a Community Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Explore locally made crafts and enjoy light refreshments. Admission is free!
Pancake Breakfast
Don’t miss the pancake breakfast at Freshwater Grange on December 7 from 8 to 11 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, sausage, and more for $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
Retired Teachers Holiday Lunch
The California Retired Teachers Association will hold a holiday lunch on December 10 at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. Social time starts at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon and music from the Eureka High School choral group. The cost is $20, and non-members can join too!
Holiday Craft Market
The Arcata Recreation Division will host its holiday craft market on December 13 and 14, featuring over 50 artisans. Admission is a $2 donation to the Youth Development Scholarship Fund.
Final Craft Fair
Wrap up the season at the Humboldt Grange No. 501 holiday craft fair on December 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy handcrafted items and more. For details, check out their Facebook page.
