Exciting Kicks Off: Hatcher Celebrates a Successful First Day of Spring Practice at Samford University Athletics

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University football team kicked off their spring practice with an energizing session at Pete Hanna Stadium. It lasted just under two hours, with players wearing shorts and helmets.
Head coach Chris Hatcher, now in his 11th season, expressed his satisfaction with the first practice. “I thought it was a good day. We have a lot of new faces and a new defensive and special teams scheme. I saw our guys having fun out there,” he said. Hatcher is the winningest coach in the program’s history and was pleased with how the team performed.
On the field, both offense and defense showed promise. Hatcher noted, “We flew around today. We forced some turnovers on defense, but we also gave up a few big plays. Offensively, we did a great job running the ball at times. Overall, it was a strong first day. I’m looking forward to being sharper by Wednesday.”
The Bulldogs will hit the field again on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m., continuing their preparations for the upcoming season. They have two scrimmages planned for March 28 and April 4, which will give them more chances to practice in a game-like setting.
Looking ahead, Samford’s 2025 season will start at home against West Georgia on Thursday, August 28, at Pete Hanna Stadium.
