Exciting Leadership Change at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst: Meet the New CEO!

Alina Moran has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. This announcement was made on February 11. Moran’s journey is inspiring; she’s the daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants and has deep ties to the hospital system.

Born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, her career there included serving as its CEO for four years. In her role as Chief Financial Officer at Elmhurst, she improved cash flow by $30 million and led the hospital’s transition to the Epic electronic health record system. Before that, she worked as the Finance Director for Managed Care at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

“Congratulations to Alina Moran on her appointment,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, Dr. Helen Arteaga. “Her return to Elmhurst is a win for the community.” Moran’s experience spans over two decades. She has also been the Chief Patient Growth Officer and the CEO of Dignity Health – California Hospital Medical Center.

During her leadership at California Hospital, she navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, treating over 10,000 patients while maintaining all services. Her efforts led to essential safety recognitions and a $215 million expansion of the hospital. At Samaritan, she worked on digital health initiatives, focusing on the needs of vulnerable populations.

Moran expressed her excitement about returning to Elmhurst, emphasizing its dedication to compassionate care for a diverse community. “Coming back feels like coming home,” she said.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Baruch College. Throughout her career, she has improved patient experiences and developed initiatives that expand healthcare access.

Moran’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. In 2019, she was named Healthcare Executive of the Year by the National Association of Healthcare Executives. This recognition reflects her commitment to quality care and advancing health equity.

Beyond her roles in healthcare, Moran is involved with multiple organizations. She serves on boards like the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement and has founded initiatives to support Latinos in academia and politics.

Statistics show the increasing need for strong leadership in healthcare. According to a 2021 survey by the American College of Healthcare Executives, effective executive leadership is essential for improving community health outcomes. Moran’s extensive experience positions her well to address these challenges at Elmhurst Hospital.

With stakeholders expressing confidence in her leadership, Moran’s appointment is a promising step for NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and the communities it serves.
