Bay College in Escanaba has welcomed Dr. Patrick Reinhard to spearhead its Nursing and Allied Health programs. With a rich background in nursing education and administration, he aims to enhance the college’s already respected curriculum.
Dr. Reinhard previously served as dean of the nursing program at San Joaquin Valley College in California. A Michigan native, he holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Iowa and a master’s in nursing from Stanbridge University. Additionally, he has a master’s in health administration and a doctorate from Central Michigan University.
“Returning to Michigan is exciting. I’m eager to join the dedicated team at Bay College and help train the next generation of nurses and healthcare workers,” said Reinhard. The college is known for producing skilled graduates who deliver exceptional care.
Dr. Nerita Hughes, president of Bay College, expressed confidence in Reinhard’s leadership. “He genuinely cares about students and their journey in healthcare,” she noted. With his experience, he will continue the college’s commitment to training highly qualified professionals.
Reinhard is also focused on reviving Bay College’s practical nursing programs in Escanaba and Iron Mountain. Unfortunately, the college must pause admissions for the fall 2025 semester due to new regulations from the Michigan State Board of Nursing. Officials expect to resume admissions in 2026.
Healthcare education is critical now more than ever. According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for nurses is projected to grow by 9% between 2020 and 2030. This trend signifies the importance of having qualified leaders like Dr. Reinhard at the helm to guide aspiring healthcare professionals.
In a world where healthcare needs are rising, community colleges play a pivotal role in preparing students. Bay College’s focus on high-quality training aligns with national efforts to ensure there are enough healthcare workers to meet growing demands.
