Exciting Leadership Change: Fatma Mili Appointed Interim Provost at [University Name]

Fatma Mili, PhD, has taken on the role of interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Montclair State University, effective January 2, 2025. Before this, she was the interim dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Mili will now lead the university’s academic team and oversee 14 different colleges and schools. She replaces Stefanie Brachfeld, who served as acting provost since October.

Montclair State University President Jonathan Koppell praised Mili, saying she is an exceptional academic leader. He noted her experience and commitment to student success, expressing confidence that she will help advance the university’s mission.

Mili joined Montclair from Grand Valley State University, where she was Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. There, she led efforts to improve advising, integrate student services, and restructured the College of Engineering and Computing into two separate colleges. Her previous roles included dean at UNC Charlotte, where she significantly increased graduation rates, and key positions at Purdue University, where she helped transform the College of Technology into the Purdue Polytechnic Institute.

In her new position, Mili is excited to continue Montclair’s tradition of innovation. She emphasized the importance of creating academic programs that respond to a changing world, aiming for student success and meaningful outcomes.

This leadership change comes at a time when universities grapple with evolving educational needs. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, nearly 70% of students believe that colleges should adapt more quickly to industry changes. As Mili steps into her role, her experience and vision could resonate with these changing demands in higher education.
