State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel is excited to take on the role of chair for the Senate Education Committee during the 104th General Assembly. With a background in education, she truly understands the obstacles teachers and students face.

“Investing in our education system is vital,” Loughran Cappel, a Democrat from Shorewood, said. “I am focused on creating policies that support both students and educators, helping to build a better future for our communities.”
Her journey began as a special education teacher. In 2015, she took a leadership role as a union representative for her school’s teacher’s union, AFT-IFT Local 604. She dedicated herself to helping fellow educators enhance their careers. Two years later, she joined the Joliet High School Board, where she worked hard to improve safety and resolve technical issues in the district.
Previously, she chaired the Senate Appropriations-Education Committee during the 103rd General Assembly. Now, she looks forward to continuing her advocacy for students and teachers in her new position.
Loughran Cappel’s commitment to education shines through her work and dedication. She will hold the chair position throughout the current assembly, ready to make a positive impact.
