Exciting Leadership Change: Swenson Appointed Vice President of Musculoskeletal Services at Penn State Health

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health has welcomed Teresa Swenson as the new administrative vice president of musculoskeletal services. She joined the team on December 16, bringing with her 30 years of experience in healthcare.

In her new role, Swenson will work closely with Dr. April Armstrong, who leads the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Penn State Health. Together, they will develop and implement strategies for enhancing musculoskeletal services across the health system. Swenson’s focus will also include supporting the educational and research goals of the Penn State College of Medicine.

Dr. Armstrong expressed excitement about Swenson’s addition to the team, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in growing their orthopedic services. “I look forward to working together,” she said, highlighting the shared mission to improve patient care.

Swenson’s expertise in orthopedics spans the last 15 years. Before joining Penn State Health, she was the associate vice president at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. There, she managed the orthopedic service line and other surgical practices, leading initiatives that earned the hospital an Orthopedic Center of Excellence designation in 2023—an honor given to only one hospital in Pennsylvania.

“I am passionate about musculoskeletal health,” Swenson noted. She is committed to achieving excellence in care delivery and is enthusiastic about her new role within a respected health system known for its compassionate patient care and innovation in medicine.

Swenson’s journey in orthopedics began at the University of Florida’s Jacksonville Healthcare Center. Later, she directed the Musculoskeletal Institute at Geisinger, showcasing her leadership skills in the field.

Her qualifications are impressive. She recently earned her Fellow Certification from the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds an MBA from the University of Scranton. Additionally, she became a certified clinical research professional in 2011. Swenson’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in health from the University of North Florida and an associate degree in radiography from Florida Community College of Jacksonville.
