Exciting Leadership Changes: McMurry University Welcomes Two New Deans!

McMurry University has made some exciting changes in leadership for its Johnson School of Business and the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing.

Dr. Martha Cruz Zuniga is the new dean of the Johnson School of Business. With more than 20 years of experience in both academia and industry, she brings a wealth of knowledge. Dr. Cruz Zuniga earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Western Michigan University and a B.S. in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. Previously, she taught at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., focusing on international development and macroeconomics. Her research took her to diverse locations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, which offers a global perspective that can greatly benefit students.

Dr. Marcia Straughn has been elevated to dean of the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing. Before this promotion, she was a professor and program director there. She also served as dean at Abilene Christian University’s nursing school. Dr. Straughn holds an impressive array of degrees from Texas Woman’s University, including her Ph.D., MSN, and BSN. She was recognized as a Leadership for Academic Nursing Programs Fellow in 2018. Her leadership was instrumental when McMurry University established sole ownership of the nursing school this year, marking a new chapter for the program.

This change in leadership aligns with a broader trend in education where schools aim to strengthen their academic and professional programs.
