Central Michigan University is making big changes in its women’s soccer program. Amy Folan, the Vice President and Director of Athletics, announced that Jeremy Groves will not return as head coach. A search for a new head coach is starting right away.
Folan expressed gratitude for Groves’ seven years at the helm. She acknowledged his dedication to the players and the community, but felt it was time for a fresh direction. “I am confident that our history and commitment to women’s soccer will attract excellent candidates,” she stated.
During his tenure, Groves had a record of 31 wins, 59 losses, and 24 ties. The team made two appearances in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships in 2019 and 2021, with 2021 being his standout year. That season, the Chippewas finished with a record of 9-8-1 and qualified for the MAC Tournament.
However, the team struggled recently, ending the 2025 season with just one win, making their postseason absence four years long. This downward trend highlights a need for change within the program.
In the meantime, assistant coach Keyton Wheelock will step in as interim head coach. This transition period is an opportunity for new ideas and strategies to revive the team.
