Exciting Leadership Update: NKU Appoints Alumna Amy Gellen as New Human Resources Officer

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) has appointed Amy Gellen as the new chief human resources officer, effective June 25. Gellen brings over 20 years of experience in human resources and talent acquisition.

Chris Calvert, NKU’s Vice President of Administration and Finance, believes Gellen will greatly enhance employee engagement and professional development at the university. “The campus is growing,” he says. “Amy’s leadership will foster a culture that emphasizes strengths, key to our mission of student success.”

Before joining NKU, Gellen was the vice president of human resources at Vora Ventures, a private equity firm in Cincinnati. There, she managed HR functions across a diverse portfolio. She also held significant roles at Fortune 500 companies like Target and Western & Southern Financial Group, where she improved hiring processes and built strong community ties.

“I’m excited to return to NKU in this new role,” Gellen shares. “I aim to enhance the workforce as we adapt to today’s higher education landscape.”

Gellen earned her MBA in marketing from NKU and her bachelor’s in marketing from The Ohio State University. In her free time, she enjoys cheering on her kids and volunteering in her community. She lives in Anderson Township with her two children, Sheridan and Sam.

Gellen’s expertise comes at a crucial time for higher education. As universities face challenges like funding cuts and evolving student needs, strong HR leadership can significantly impact faculty engagement and success. According to a recent survey by the Society for Human Resource Management, 79% of HR professionals believe employee engagement directly improves organizational performance. Gellen’s experience could be vital in navigating these challenges at NKU.
