Exciting Matchup: Michigan State University Takes on Central Michigan University Tuesday in Mt. Pleasant!

Michigan State baseball is embarking on a busy stretch, playing several games in Michigan. Their next stop? Mt. Pleasant, just 67 miles from their home field, to face Central Michigan on March 24. The game starts at 3 p.m.

The Spartans recently had their home opener, which marked the end of 19 games on the road. They faced Iowa and managed to win their first Big Ten series of the season, winning two out of three games. They shut out Iowa in the opener, clinched the series with a big 15-5 win in a doubleheader, but took a loss in the final game, making their overall record 7-15 and 3-6 in the Big Ten so far.

Central Michigan, coming into this game with a record of 9-11 and 3-6 in the Mid-American Conference, had a rollercoaster series against Toledo recently. After losing the opener, they bounced back to win the last two games, including a dramatic 6-5 victory in 11 innings.

This match against CMU is part of a series of contests against in-state opponents for MSU. They recently played Eastern Michigan and lost to Michigan last week. After facing Central Michigan, they’ll host them again in East Lansing on March 31.

Interestingly, both teams feature a strong local presence, with each roster having 21 players from Michigan. One notable name is Gavin Moczydlowsky, a former Spartan who now plays for CMU.

As for the coaching staff, Jake Boss Jr. is in his 18th season with MSU. He recently received a contract extension that runs through 2029. He’s aiming for his 500th career win, currently sitting at 498.

The Spartans have already played in six different states this season, including games in Texas and Nebraska. Their schedule has been intense, featuring several top-ranked teams, which has resulted in them holding a strong position in the Big Ten this early in the season.

Another interesting fact is that MSU’s pitching staff is currently impressive, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2:1. The team is showing promise, especially in home games where they have historically performed well.

Fans can catch this week’s action online via live stats and audio streams. Whether following along at the game or online, Spartan baseball is generating excitement as they continue their season in Michigan.
