Exciting Merger: Nonprofits One Joplin and Active Lifestyle Events Unite for a Celebration – Discover the Details!

Joplin, MO – A special event is happening on Friday, March 14, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Joplin Avenue Coffee, located at 506 S. Joplin Avenue. This celebration marks the merger of One Joplin and Active Lifestyle Events (ALE) into one nonprofit organization.

Nicole Brown, the executive director of One Joplin, believes that this merger is a natural fit. This union brings together ALE’s mission to promote active lifestyles with One Joplin’s broader goals of enhancing community health and well-being.

ALE has been a staple in the community since 2011, known especially for supporting the Joplin Memorial Run. This event, which includes a half marathon, 5K, and kids’ run, honors the 161 lives lost during the May 22, 2011 tornado. The final memorial run took place on May 18, 2024, and over the years, ALE has donated more than $300,000 to help rebuild Joplin while encouraging fitness and wellness.

Audie Dennis, the President of ALE’s Board, emphasizes the importance of continuing their mission. “One Joplin’s goals align perfectly with what we’ve aimed for through our events,” he shares. Funds raised in support of ALE have gone toward grants for projects like Bright Futures and the Joplin Trails Coalition.

Brown adds, “We want to build on the legacy that ALE has established. Health is influenced by different factors, such as literacy and community connections. One Joplin is committed to addressing these critical needs in our community.”

Notably, Tonya Sprenkle, who is ALE’s treasurer, has been involved with One Joplin’s Steering Team, and Audie Dennis plans to contribute in 2025.

After the merger ceremony, a networking brunch will take place. Current and past volunteers from both One Joplin and ALE, as well as the media, are invited to join in the celebration.
