Contra Costa County is now offering free physical exams and confidential reproductive health services at three community colleges. These mobile clinics are designed to help students access essential health care easily.
The clinics are available at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, and Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. At San Pablo and Pleasant Hill, the clinics operate every Wednesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m., except on the second Wednesday of the month. In Pittsburg, the clinics run every Monday during the same hours.
Services include general physical exams, reproductive education, and testing for sexually transmitted infections. These mobile clinics have been successfully serving high schools in the area and are now extending their reach to local colleges.
Dr. Grant Colfax, the county health director, emphasized the importance of health during college years, stating, “With classwork, jobs, and daily demands, health can fall lower on the list. By bringing care to campus, we are removing barriers and giving students an easy way to focus on their health.”
Students under 21 can access reproductive services regardless of insurance status. Those over 21 with Medi-Cal, or those who are uninsured, can also receive physical exams. Recent studies show that around 1 in 4 college students struggle with health access, making these clinics even more vital.

As college life can be stressful, these services represent a commitment to student well-being, ensuring they have the support they need during an important transition in their lives.
