Exciting Monroeville Events: Join Us for Park Block Parties, Free Food Giveaways, Day of Peace 5K & More!

Summer is here, and Monroeville is buzzing with community events! Here’s what’s happening around town.

Block Parties

Monroeville’s Recreation & Parks Department is hosting block parties this summer. It’s a great time to relax, enjoy some food, and chat with local leaders. Join us on July 17 at Overlook Park with Ward 1 Councilman Joe Hyzy and again on August 12 at Monroeville Community Park West with Ward 3 Councilman Bob Stevenson. The parties run from 6 to 8 p.m., and kids can enjoy crafts while everyone feasts on delicious food from the Gridiots BBQ food truck.

Food Distribution

Need food assistance? A monthly food distribution will be held at Gateway High School on the second Wednesday of each month, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. No identification is necessary. This program supports about 800 families each month, according to Valerie Warning, a school board member.

International Day of Peace 5K

Get ready to run! Registration is open for the Monroeville Rotary’s International Day of Peace 5K on September 20 at Monroeville Community Park West. This all-ages event is rain or shine, starting at 9 a.m. Sign up by September 13 for $25, which includes a race T-shirt. Proceeds will go towards local charities.

Community Carnival for Alzheimer’s Awareness

Join “Ginny’s Carniv-Alz” on June 29 in Murrysville, part of “The Longest Day” initiative by the Alzheimer’s Association. From noon to 4 p.m., enjoy games, music, and food for a great cause. A $20 pass gives you access to all activities!

Events at Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church

The church is hosting several community events this summer:

  • Blessing of the Pets: Join us on July 6 at 10 a.m. Bring your pets for a special blessing.
  • Craft Group: Every second Tuesday of the month, enjoy crafts and fellowship from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Summer Music Camp: Kids ages 6-12 can participate from July 7-11, learning songs and preparing for a performance.

There’s no fee to attend any of these events.

Scholarships for Students

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is offering a $2,500 scholarship sweepstakes for college and graduate students. By signing up for updates between June 5 and December 15, you could be entered to win. Twelve winners will be announced, with only Pennsylvania residents eligible.

Monroeville Convention Center Events

Mark your calendars for events at the Monroeville Convention Center, including:

  • Pittsburgh BBQ and Band Fest from June 27-29
  • Dinosaur Adventure on July 5-6 and 11-13
  • Stamp Scrap Art Tour on July 11-13
  • Warrior Notes fellowship on July 14-15

Road Construction Update

Heads up! A section of Patton Street is closed until September for maintenance work, which includes building a new retaining wall. Residents will still have access to their homes during this time.

Revolutionary War Service

Experience a unique service on June 29 at Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, 10-11 a.m. This special event recreates a historic worship service and is a chance to reflect on themes of liberty and faith from the Revolutionary War. Feel free to bring a lawn chair and lunch for post-service fellowship.

Garden City Food Pantry

The Garden City Food Pantry will hold a food distribution on July 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. Additional distribution dates are set for the second Thursday of every month. No ID is necessary for assistance. More details can be found at GardenCityFoodPantry.org.

Connect with Others

The Association of University People is inviting new members aged 50+ who are college graduates. It’s a wonderful way to meet like-minded individuals through activities and events.

Stay engaged, connect with your community, and enjoy all that Monroeville has to offer this summer!
