Exciting Move-In Day: University of Kansas Students Flood Lawrence with Energy and Enthusiasm!

Freshman Excitement at the University of Kansas

It’s a thrilling time for freshmen at the University of Kansas. William Elston is one of the many new students starting this adventure. He’s excited to be on campus, but like many, he has some nerves about the new experience.

Elston, who is from out of state, shares his concern about making new friends. He recently accepted a bid from a fraternity, but he still feels the pressure of fitting in. “It’s hard to connect with people right away, especially when you don’t know anyone,” he said.

One of the major draws for Elston was the sports culture, particularly basketball. He’s already snagged a Bobby Witt jersey and a KU windbreaker from Rally House and looks forward to the upcoming football and basketball seasons. “My mom is my connection to KU; she studied law here, so we’ve always supported our teams,” he explained.

As these freshmen settle in, it’s important for families visiting campus to plan ahead, especially with ongoing construction that may affect traffic.

This year, a survey by the American College Health Association noted that feelings of anxiety among college freshmen are at an all-time high, with 24% reporting feeling overwhelmed. Elston’s feelings mirror what many students face as they navigate the challenges of starting college life.

Transitioning to college can be daunting, but it also opens doors to new friendships and opportunities. Engaging in campus activities can help ease the nerves and connect students. With a little patience and time, they often find their community and thrive in their new environment.
