Exciting NBC 2026-27 Series Orders: Discover ‘Rockford Files’, ‘Sunset P.I.’ and More Must-Watch Shows!

NBC has announced its most exciting pilot season since the pandemic, greenlighting four out of eight pilots. This includes two dramas, The Rockford Files with David Boreanaz and Line of Fire featuring Peter Krause, as well as two comedies, Sunset P.I. with Jake Johnson and Newlyweds starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly.

The network has focused on popular stars to anchor these shows. All eight pilots feature established actors, which has been a big selling point. The chemistry between cast members, particularly Krause and Hope Davis in Line of Fire, received high praise during screenings. Jane Levy is also being recognized as a standout in Sunset P.I.

Pearlena Igbokwe, head of NBC Entertainment, expressed pride in the pilot slate. She noted that the team’s creativity helped deliver standout projects. “This process allowed us to take big swings, and we landed on shows that can truly break through,” she said.

The pilot season also played a crucial role in job creation, producing 4,000 jobs across the U.S. These shows were filmed in various locations, including Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta.

Among the pilots, Sunset P.I. emerged as a favorite from the start, sailing smoothly through all phases of development. Meanwhile, the competition for other slots was fierce, with Newlyweds and another project, Jill & Ginger, competing closely.

The drama segment was equally competitive. The Rockford Files quickly stood out for Boreanaz’s captivating performance, while Line of Fire emerged as a strong contender with its blend of family drama and procedural elements. However, NBC decided not to pick up two female-led dramas, Key Witness and What the Dead Know. There’s speculation that if NBC had an additional slot, Key Witness, featuring Emily Deschanel, might have been included.

Interestingly, What the Dead Know may undergo changes to better center on Schilling’s character. Additionally, Puzzled, a lighter comedy starring Damon Wayans Jr., stood out among the more serious dramas.

New Series Overview

Line of Fire: Follows a family of law enforcement agents as they tackle complex cases, blending family dynamics with high-stakes drama.

The Rockford Files: A modern take on the classic series, this show features a newly paroled private investigator navigating a tricky blend of charm and danger.

Newlyweds: A romantic comedy about a free-spirited woman and a structured professor who marry unexpectedly after a whirlwind romance.

Sunset P.I.: This series continues the legacy of Los Angeles private detectives, promising intrigue and humor.

This pilot season marks a significant moment for NBC, reflecting a shift in television dynamics and the return of high-quality scripted shows. According to a recent Nielsen report, scripted series viewership is on the rise again, showing that audiences remain hungry for fresh content. This pilot season could very well set the tone for future programming, teetering on the edge of innovation and nostalgia.
