Indian Railways is set to launch two exciting train services—Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat—from Saharsa, Bihar. This move aims to enhance rail connectivity in the region, especially with elections approaching.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially kick off the Saharsa–New Delhi Amrit Bharat Express on April 24. This will be the second Amrit Bharat train in the state, running through Darbhanga and Sitamarhi. The train rake has already arrived in Bihar, and a successful trial run was completed by the Samastipur Railway Division.
Meanwhile, the Vande Bharat Express will also connect Saharsa to New Delhi, taking a different route that includes Barauni, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, and other key stops. Officials state that this train will allow passengers to travel from Muzaffarpur to Delhi in just 13 hours, providing a convenient option for local travelers.
To prepare for these new services, the Samastipur Railway Division has begun upgrading infrastructure at Saharsa station. Modifications are being made to the overhead equipment (OHE) to ensure smooth operations for both trains. This development is pivotal in transforming Saharsa into a significant hub for train maintenance and operations in Bihar.
Launching these trains not only improves mobility but also signals the government’s commitment to enhancing regional infrastructure. With elections nearing, this move is strategic, aimed at boosting economic opportunities in the area.
According to recent reports, the introduction of expedited train services can lead to a 20% increase in passenger flow, significantly benefiting local businesses and tourism. Experts believe that better transport links can stimulate economic growth in underserved regions. During the 2014 elections, investments in infrastructure were also marked as a pivotal factor in boosting government popularity, indicating that enhanced rail services could positively influence public sentiment this time as well.
