Exciting New Chapter: Ryan Beard Takes the Helm as Head Coach of Coastal Carolina Football

Coastal Carolina University has appointed Ryan Beard as the new head coach for its football team. This announcement was made by Chance Miller, the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Beard, previously successful at Missouri State University, will be the fifth coach in the history of the Chanticleers.

Miller praised Beard’s vibrant energy and dedication, stating that he’s one of the best young coaches in the nation. Beard is known for his ability to develop talent and inspire players. His past experiences at schools like Western Kentucky and Louisville have shown his talent in building strong teams.

During Beard’s time at Missouri State, he led the Bears to remarkable achievements, including a notable winning record during their first season at the FBS level in 2025. They not only made history by earning their first bowl game appearance but also finished second in Conference USA for both total and rushing defense. His focus on creating a disciplined, physical team helped the program thrive.

In 2024, Beard’s squad at Missouri State showcased one of the top offensive performances in the nation. They ranked highly in passing offense and total offense, setting new benchmarks for the program. His approach led to multiple recognitions for his players, including 12 all-conference selections and three All-Americans.

Beard’s coaching journey began at Missouri State where he initially served as the defensive coordinator, helping turn the program around. His teams were recognized for their aggressive play and strong defensive stats. He is credited with developing future NFL players, demonstrating his extensive talent for player development.

Beyond his coaching skills, Beard’s recruiting abilities stand out. Known for his connections in the Midwest and Southeast, he has built solid relationships that result in strong recruitment. This reputation bodes well for Coastal Carolina as he starts to build his team.

Coastal Carolina’s president, Dr. James J. Winebrake, also voiced his support for Beard, highlighting his commitment to student-athletes both on and off the field. Beard expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Coastal community and continuing the tradition of competitiveness and excellence.

As a former standout player at Western Kentucky, Beard brings personal experience to his coaching role. He is ready to lead the Chanticleers with passion and dedication while building on the strong foundation laid by previous teams. The future looks promising under his leadership.
