Exciting New Cox Hall Food Market and Dining Upgrades Coming to Emory Community This Fall!

This fall, Emory’s Atlanta campus is buzzing with exciting dining changes. The new Cox Hall Food Market opened its doors in July. It modernizes the former food court, bringing in fresh vendors and some beloved favorites.

The renovation kicked off shortly after Commencement on May 14, 2024. For 20 years, the old Cox Hall had seen little change, with cramped spaces and frustrating lines making it tough for diners to enjoy their meals. Chad Sunstein, the senior director of Emory Dining, noted that the updates aim to improve customer flow and overall dining experience.

The revamped Cox Hall Food Market features modern food stations, increased seating, and improved tech tools for checking out. Now, “meal exchange” allows students to use their meal plan funds at various vendors, not just the Dobbs Common Table. Plus, Eagle Dollars and Dooley Dollars remain usable at Cox Hall.

To better serve students, the market also introduced mobile carts. These carts provide hot and cold meals along with drinks, complementing the food trucks during renovations. They’re an ongoing option for students, ensuring flexibility during busy hours.

Sunstein highlighted that student feedback was essential in shaping the renovations—from the menu to furniture selections. “We focus on input from students, making dining at Emory a true community effort,” he said.

Other dining venues on campus are also stepping up. For instance, the Dobbs Common Table expanded seating to accommodate the growing demand. This comes alongside new initiatives to promote sustainability, such as reusable stainless-steel takeout containers introduced by students. This effort replaced typical single-use options.

In spring 2024, the Eagle Emporium, the campus convenience store, also received a tech upgrade. Students can now use credit cards or mobile ordering for easier shopping. The store operates 24/7, with a brief closure overnight on weekends. These changes aim to streamline the shopping experience and keep up with the trendy pace of campus life.

Emory’s focus on student satisfaction means that whether you’re looking for quick snacks, hearty meals, or specialized diets, there’s something for everyone. Sunstein emphasized the importance of high-quality, locally sourced food to enhance the dining experience across campus.

As dining options grow, community connections are stronger than ever at Emory. These improvements aim to make every meal enjoyable and foster a sense of belonging among students.
