Indian Railways is on the move with its TAG 2026 initiative, aiming to upgrade and modernize train services across the country. This plan brings in new trains, extends existing routes, and speeds up travel times.
In the Central Railway zone, four new trains were introduced, along with six extended services and speed boosts for 30 trains. The East Coast Railway added four new trains and sped up three existing ones. The East Central Railway saw the biggest growth with 20 new trains and twelve sped-up services.
Each railway zone made notable improvements:
- Northern Railway introduced 20 new trains and sped up 24.
- Southern Railway added six trains and sped up 75.
- North Western Railway led in speed with 89 trains gaining a faster schedule.
Overall, TAG 2026 brought 122 new trains to the Indian Railways, improving the network significantly. Among these new services, 26 are Amrit Bharat trains designed for premium travel, and 28 are Vande Bharat trains that cater to faster semi-high-speed connections.
In total, 549 trains were speeded up. The South Western Railway contributed the most, with 66 trains gaining 5-15 additional minutes in their schedules.
