Exciting New Faculty Additions at the University of Scranton: Meet Our Latest Educators!

The University of Scranton is welcoming 14 new full-time faculty members for the 2025-2026 academic year. Each brings unique expertise and experience to their respective departments, enriching the university’s academic community.

Sara Chan Yun Yu, Ph.D. joins the Philosophy Department. Her research focuses on ethics and social epistemology. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, where she earned notable fellowships and studied at the University of Oxford and the University of St. Andrews. Sara is passionate about the philosophy of disability and has presented widely at international conferences.

Beatriz Fontoura, Ph.D. is now part of the Chemistry Department. She recently worked at Wake Forest University, where she specialized in analytical chemistry. Beatriz holds degrees from Brazilian universities and is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Her contributions span many scholarly articles, and she has presented at various conferences across the Americas.

Nathan Henceroth, Ph.D. was appointed in the Political Science Department. Before this role, he taught at Albright College and Allegheny College, focusing on comparative politics and political economy. Nathan holds degrees from several institutions, including a Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His publications and presentations reflect a firm grasp of his discipline.

Hyun Kim, Ph.D. enters the Health and Human Performance Department. She previously taught Public Health at Alma College and held multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Hyun actively participates in professional organizations and frequently presents at nutrition conferences.

Megan Ossont, Ph.D. joins the Nursing Department. A highly experienced nurse practitioner, she taught at Drexel University and worked with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. With degrees from The University of Scranton and the University of Pennsylvania, Megan’s work in psychiatric nursing is well-regarded.

Corey Posa comes in as a faculty specialist in Nursing, focusing on perinatal addiction medicine. She brings valuable experience from her role at UPMC Magee-Women’s Hospital and has a solid educational background from Duquesne University.

Carissa Pupo, DNP, previously an adjunct, is now a faculty specialist in Nursing. With extensive experience in anesthesia and teaching, she earned her DNP from The University of Scranton and is affiliated with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Swathi Ragulan, Ph.D. was appointed in the Counseling and Human Services Department. Her background includes behavior analysis and experience in providing services for individuals with autism. Swathi is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, having taught at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Sangita Saha, Ph.D. joins the History Department, specializing in South Asian History. With impressive academic credentials from notable universities, she has engaged in extensive research and presented at various conferences.

Samantha Scott, Ph.D. is now part of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies. With a strong background in biblical studies, she has contributed significantly to academia through publications and presentations.

Navid Shahrouzi, Ph.D. joins the Physics and Engineering Department. An expert in embedded systems, he has held positions in both academia and industry, contributing to innovations in engineering.

Marlon Mike Toro-Alvarez, Ph.D. takes on a role in Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, and Sociology. His experience spans law enforcement and academia, with a strong focus on cybersecurity education.

Al Turano steps in as a faculty specialist in Operations and Analytics. With a background in big data and artificial intelligence, he brings a wealth of industry experience from Dell Technologies and EMC Corporation.

Jacob Zoromski, Ph.D. is the new visiting assistant professor in Mathematics. He earned his degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Notre Dame, and has been recognized for his excellence in student teaching.
