Despite recent weather issues that closed many restaurants, the 417 food scene is buzzing with excitement. A new ice cream and coffee joint has opened, and a local restaurant recently showcased a Springfield favorite in Washington, D.C. Plus, there’s a new location for a popular Chinese restaurant.

Ice Cream and Coffee: A Nice Combo

Sips and Scoops, located at 3202 W. Republic Road, just opened its doors. This cozy café offers a delightful mix of coffee drinks and sweet treats. You can enjoy everything from lattes to milkshakes and sundaes. There are also snacks like pretzels, cheese, muffins, and cinnamon rolls to satisfy your cravings.

The café welcomes guests from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday to Friday, and it opens a bit later at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Bringing Springfield’s Flavor to D.C.

Leong’s Asian Diner recently made its mark in Washington, D.C. At the request of Senator Josh Hawley, the diner served Springfield-style cashew chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and salad to around 75 members of Congress and their staff.

This beloved diner was founded in 2010 by David Leong and his son, Wing Yee Leong. Today, David’s sons, Wing Yee and Wing Ling Leong, continue the family legacy. Senator Hawley praised the diner and its founder, stating, “Leong’s iconic Springfield-style cashew chicken is a state favorite, and I was delighted to share it with my colleagues and give them a taste of Missouri.”

A New Spot for Chinese Cuisine

The Wok on Scenic has expanded! A new location opened at 334 N. West Bypass on February 6. This new spot joins the original location at 4153 S. Scenic Ave. It’s open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the team expressed gratitude to the Springfield community for their support over the years.

With over 20 years of service in Springfield, The Wok on Scenic continues to be a go-to place for delicious Asian cuisine. Check out their menu on the restaurant’s website for more information.

This week’s updates show the vibrant food culture in the area continues to thrive, offering exciting new options and honoring local traditions.
