Wake Forest University School of Law and the School of Professional Studies have introduced an exciting new program: the Juris Doctor (JD)/Master of Health Administration (MHA) joint degree. This program blends legal studies with healthcare management training. It’s perfect for those looking to influence the future of healthcare law and administration.
The healthcare sector plays a massive role in the U.S. economy, making up 20% of the GDP. As the need for lawyers skilled in healthcare continues to rise, the JD/MHA program provides a comprehensive education. Students get to dive deep into legal principles while also exploring the nuances of healthcare administration. This dual approach prepares graduates for vital roles in areas like hospitals, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical firms.
Professor Mark Hall, head of the Health Law and Policy Program, highlights the program’s significance: “There’s a growing need for leaders who understand both healthcare and law. Our graduates will be well-equipped to impact healthcare systems positively, improving outcomes for patients and organizations alike.”
Designed with flexibility in mind, the JD/MHA program allows students to work towards both degrees simultaneously at a cost lower than pursuing them separately. To apply, students must gain acceptance from both the Law School and the School of Professional Studies.
Recent statistics show that healthcare jobs are among the fastest-growing in the U.S. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 15% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. This ongoing growth underscores the value of programs like the JD/MHA.
