Mark your calendars! The first WRMSSEF is set for April 26, 2025, at Edgemont High School. Students will present their projects to expert judges and compete for various awards. Registration is open now at wrmssef.org.

“We are proud to start the Westchester Regional Middle School Science Engineering Fair,” said Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton, Edgemont Superintendent. “This fair allows students to show off their hard work. It’s a great stepping stone for future science fairs in high school and careers in science.”

WRMSSEF has a special status as the only pathway to the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge in the region. The top 10% of students will be able to advance to this national science competition, highlighting the fair’s importance. The event is also supported by notable sponsors like Regeneron, Broadcom, the Society for Science, and the Nature Center at Greenburgh.

The creation of WRMSSEF took over a year, led by dedicated educators and community members:

  • Talia Dardis, a science research teacher at Edgemont Junior Senior High School.
  • MaryRose Joseph, assistant principal at Edgemont High School.
  • Dolya Fleck, a former Edgemont Board of Education trustee.
  • Kareem Nasr, a student and two-year president of the Student Science Research Club.

Michael Blueglass, founder of the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF), fully supports WRMSSEF. His involvement seeks to inspire the rising generation of scientists and engineers.

The district is also setting up an advisory board with science teachers from nearby schools. This collaboration aims to strengthen the regional science community and ensure the ongoing success of the fair. Students can find resources and virtual mentoring on the WRMSSEF website at www.wrmssef.org.

Support from Edgemont Superintendent Hamilton and the Board of Education has been vital in making WRMSSEF a reality. Their commitment highlights the district’s dedication to promoting student involvement and achievement in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

“We can’t wait to see the innovative ideas from our students,” Dardis shared.

“Working with Ms. Dardis, Ms. Joseph, and Ms. Fleck is a thrill. They are fantastic mentors, and this fair will be a wonderful opportunity for students,” Nasr added.
