The Ministry of Railways has just approved a new Vande Bharat Express train service connecting Udaipur to Ahmedabad. This semi-high-speed train will start running soon, making travel between these two cities quicker and more convenient.
The North Western Railway (NWR) shared that this decision aims to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate local economies.
However, with the arrival of the Udaipur-Asarwa train, two existing services—Udaipur City to Agra and Udaipur City to Jaipur—will soon be discontinued. The Agra route will cease operations on February 15, 2026, while the Jaipur route will stop running a day earlier.
As for the new Udaipur-Asarwa train, it will run six days a week, except Tuesdays. The train number 26963 will leave Udaipur at 6:10 AM and arrive in Ahmedabad at 10:25 AM. The return service, train number 26964, will depart Ahmedabad at 5:45 PM and reach Udaipur by 10:00 PM.
This route also includes stops at Zawar, Dungarpur, and Himmat Nagar, making it accessible for even more passengers. The new Vande Bharat Express will travel at speeds up to 160 km/h, offering a faster and more comfortable journey.
Passengers, who have experienced the service before, have taken to social media to express their excitement. Many are anticipating the enhanced travel experience, particularly those commuting for work or family visits.
In a broader context, the introduction of this train reflects India’s ongoing investment in its rail infrastructure. According to a 2022 report by the Railways Ministry, the modernization of rail lines and introduction of faster trains aim to increase passenger numbers by 30% in the coming years. This aligns with the government’s push to make rail travel more competitive against other modes of transportation.
As Indian Railways continues to evolve, the new Udaipur-Asarwa Vande Bharat Express marks another step toward improving connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region.
