Exciting New Vendors Coming to Miramar Food Hall: What to Expect in Orange County

When the space next to the closed Miramar Theatre opened up, Tiger Hospitality saw a golden opportunity. “We jumped on it,” said Managing Partner Berke Bakay, pointing out the property’s close location to the beach. “I don’t think there’s anything like it.”

Tiger Hospitality, a San Diego company specializing in food halls, plans to launch the Miramar Food Hall before the year ends. The new venue will feature 17 different food and drink options, catering to the local community.

The food hall will be housed in a 12,632-square-foot area that was formerly a bowling alley near the Miramar Theatre in San Clemente’s North Beach district, which has been closed since 1992. Bakay explained that they aim to fill a gap in the San Clemente market with a mix of both popular and unique dining options.

The lineup includes favorites like El Puerto Street Tacos and Graciously Thai, as well as a new venture called Hen Hause, created by Thyda Sieng, who previously ran the Fire Bird in Long Beach. MOTO Pizza, known for its Detroit-style pies, will also join the roster, promising a delicious menu crafted from a 100-year-old sourdough starter.

Tiger Hospitality has developed three eateries—Cosmos Burger, La Vida, and Lobster Lab—internally. These concepts were born out of necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic when many businesses faced high turnover. Bakay noted, “We asked ourselves what concepts we could create that would last in any food hall we run in the future.”

These three brands first made their debut at The Windmill in Carlsbad and will also open in San Diego’s Little Italy next year, where Tiger is developing another space. As for the last vendor spot at the Miramar Food Hall, Bakay mentioned they’re weighing their options since several interested parties have surfaced now that the project is moving forward.

Alongside the food hall, a new private events venue by Wedgewood Weddings & Events is also set to open this fall, adding to the excitement of the redevelopment.

Bakay believes strongly in supporting small business owners. He remarked that passionate chefs should have the chance to create their own ventures. The food hall model allows these vendors to afford their spaces without overcharging customers to make a living, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. “We wanted to create something relevant for San Clemente,” he said.

According to a recent survey, 70% of small business owners feel that community support is crucial for their success. The Miramar Food Hall aims to be a hub for local culinary talent, helping them thrive. Overall, this project not only revitalizes a historic site but also nourishes the local entrepreneur spirit.
