Exciting New Ventures Join the Unreasonable Food™ Family: Discover Mars Snacking’s 14 Innovative Startups!

Unreasonable Food is tackling big challenges in our food systems by supporting innovative ventures. Born from a collaboration between Mars Snacking and Unreasonable Group, it’s on a mission to create a more sustainable food future.

Recently, Unreasonable Food announced its 2025 cohort. Fourteen promising ventures were selected to tackle issues like dairy cow emissions, sustainable ingredients, and eco-friendly colors. “Addressing food system challenges isn’t something one organization can do alone,” said Amanda Davies, who leads Mars’ R&D and sustainability efforts. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among many bright minds to unlock new possibilities for a better future.

The twelve ventures include:

  • Alpine Bio: This company engineers crops like soybeans to mimic dairy proteins, reducing reliance on cows.
  • Standing Ovation: They create animal-free casein through precision fermentation to replicate dairy textures in cheese.
  • Oobli: By using sweet proteins from plants, they offer a sugar-like taste without the sugar itself.
  • Debut Biotechnology: This venture focuses on fermenting alternatives for natural color and other ingredients.
  • Octarine Bio: They produce vibrant natural colors, benefitting both food and textiles.
  • DE3PBIO: They combine AI and biotechnology to develop healthier plant-based ingredients.
  • NuCicer: This company breeds new chickpea varieties to boost protein content significantly.
  • Plantible Foods: They extract protein from duckweed, offering a sustainable substitute for eggs and dairy.
  • Hydrosome Labs: They use ultrafine bubbles to enhance fermentation and nutrient delivery.
  • Pow.bio: Known for continuous fermentation technology, they aim to lower costs and increase bio-production.

The previous cohort in 2024 made impressive strides, reporting nearly $200 million in revenue and significant reductions in carbon emissions and water use. They reached millions with nutritious food while raising awareness on climate change.

As social media buzzes with excitement about these startups, many customers are eager to see how these innovations can reshape their food supply.

Together, the cohorts from 2024 and 2025 are set to collaborate with Mars teams and a global network of investors, focusing on transforming food supply chains.
