Indiana Swimming Qualifies for NCAA Championships
The Indiana swimming and diving team is making waves! They have qualified nine swimmers and all five relays for the upcoming 2026 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The event takes place from March 18-21 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
The team will aim for even more spots at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, happening from March 9-11 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Indiana has secured a spot in 16 out of 19 swimming events, with multiple swimmers competing in eight out of fourteen individual events.
Highlighting their talent, three swimmers are qualified in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and 200-yard backstroke. Notably, they have 12 top 10 seeds and seven top 5 seeds in various events.
Standout Performers
Alex Shackell, a freshman, is ranked No. 3 in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly. At the Big Ten Championships, he set program records in these events.
Liberty Clark, also a freshman, is making her NCAA debut as the No. 3 seed in the 200-yard freestyle and No. 5 in the 100 free. She holds program records for the 50 and 100 freestyles and is closing in on the 200 record.
Miranda Grana, a junior, is positioned well with a No. 4 seed in the 200-yard backstroke, No. 5 in the 100-yard butterfly, and No. 6 in the 100-yard backstroke. She has already shown improvement from last season.
The team also expects four of its relays to finish in the top eight. Their 400-yard freestyle relay holds the No. 3 national seed after breaking a Big Ten record with a time of 3:07.72, featuring Shackell, Clark, senior Kristina Paegle, and Hoeper.
