Exciting News: AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT Launch at Just 9 – Available March 6th!

Next week, AMD launches its answer to Nvidia’s RTX 50-series GPUs. The new Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT offer competitive pricing at $549 and $599, respectively. This comes just a day after Nvidia’s RTX 5070 release, which is priced at $549.

AMD claims these graphics cards deliver “4K gaming at a 1440p price.” They compare the 9070 XT to older models, stating it’s 51% faster than the RX 6900 XT at 4K settings and 26% faster than the RTX 3090, both of which were top contenders a few years ago.

Initial leaks suggested the 9070 might be priced at $649, but AMD surprised many with the lower price points. The 9070 XT could rival Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti, which costs $749, provided AMD meets its performance targets.

We’ll get more insights once reviews come out next week, but AMD hints that the 9070 XT outpaces its previous RX 7900 GRE model by 42% at 4K and shows strong performance relative to the 7900 XTX, AMD’s top card from last year.

The standard RX 9070 is 21% faster than the RX 7900 GRE at 4K, and 38% faster than the 6800 XT. It also surpasses the Nvidia RTX 3080 by 26%. This performance comes from its efficient 220-watt, 4nm chip, which AMD calls their most efficient GPU yet.

Each card features 16GB of GDDR6 memory and offers DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b ports. They use standard 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

Even without the number of graphics compute units being lower than the 7900 GRE, these new cards leverage RDNA 4 architecture. This new design delivers twice the rasterization performance compared to RDNA 2, making it powerful for gaming and other graphical tasks.

AMD has improved raytracing capabilities and machine learning performance too. There’s an enhanced version of FSR called FSR 4 that promises better gaming visuals by using AI upscaling techniques, exclusive to RDNA 4 and newer cards.

AMD plans to have 30 games supporting FSR4 at launch, with over 75 by the end of the year. Many of these will be popular games for consoles. This development raises questions about its relation to the AI upscaling found in the upcoming PS5 Pro.

In addition, the new cards feature an upgraded media engine for better gameplay recording and streaming. Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) now reduces ghosting and detail smearing even further.

AMD’s launch strategy seems confident as they expect strong availability when these cards hit the market. They’re committed to maintaining competitive pricing and ensuring their products meet the expectations of gamers worldwide.
