Bellevue is ramping up its food truck scene with a new spot at Compass Plaza on 106th Avenue Northeast. Starting April 14, this location will join the City Hall Plaza food truck program, which started last year and saw great success. Food trucks will be at Compass Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The City Hall program served 3,600 customers and helped local food trucks earn $60,000 in net sales. Jesse Canedo, Bellevue’s chief economic development officer, noted that expanding the program is one way to enhance activities in the city’s vibrant downtown.
This initiative is part of the Grand Connection Street Eats program, launched in partnership with the Washington State Food Truck Association. “We love seeing cities use food trucks to boost local economies,” said Lori Johnson, president of the association. Food trucks not only provide delicious options but also support new entrepreneurs and make good use of public spaces.
As more people return to the office, there’s a growing demand for food and drink options. The new Compass Plaza site will complement the existing City Hall location, which continues to welcome visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The city plans to explore additional locations for food trucks across downtown in the upcoming months.
This trend echoes a larger movement in urban areas where food trucks serve as hubs for community engagement. Recent surveys show that nearly 70% of people prefer dining at food trucks for their convenience and variety. Food trucks have become a cultural staple, creating opportunities for social interaction and fostering a sense of community amidst the hustle of city life.
Bellevue is committed to enhancing public spaces and encouraging vibrant community gatherings, especially with the Grand Connection initiative, which aims to improve public areas from Meydenbauer Bay Park through downtown and across Interstate 405 to Eastrail.
