The Cincinnati Bengals have made a big move by extending wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s contract for four more years, keeping him with the team through the 2029 season.
Chase, who played college football at Louisiana State University, was picked fifth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Over his first four seasons, he has proven to be a standout player. He has appeared in 62 regular-season games and started 61 of them, racking up 395 catches for 5,425 yards and 46 touchdowns. Remarkably, he ranks among the top in NFL history for receiving yards and touchdowns in a player’s first four seasons.
He has been selected to the Pro Bowl every year since he entered the league and is one of only six players to achieve four straight seasons with over a thousand receiving yards. His average of 87.5 receiving yards per game is the second-best rate ever.
Since 2021, Chase has also shone as a deep threat. He leads the league in touchdown receptions of over 40, 50, and even 60 yards. In fact, he holds the Bengals’ record for most 60-plus yard touchdown catches—a record that’s notable for anyone under 25 since the NFL’s merger with the AFL in 1970.
Chase’s performance in the 2024 season set the bar incredibly high: he led the NFL with 127 receptions, 1,708 yards, and 17 touchdowns. This impressive feat earned him the coveted "Triple Crown," making him only the sixth player to achieve this in the Super Bowl era. His achievements also included being a unanimous first-team All-Pro and sharing the title of FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Year. His catch and yard records both showcased his dominance, while his touchdown count tied a franchise record set back in 1995.
Chase was also pivotal in helping the Bengals reach Super Bowl LVI after the 2021 season and return to the AFC Championship Game the following year. He has set postseason records for the Bengals, with 45 receptions and 588 receiving yards. This ranks him second in history for the most receiving yards in a player’s first seven postseason games, just shy of former Washington player Charlie Brown’s record of 643 yards.
As Ja’Marr Chase continues to break records and solidify his place in NFL history, fans and analysts will be watching closely to see what he accomplishes next. His blend of skill and athleticism keeps him at the forefront of discussions about the NFL’s brightest stars.
