Jim Pittenger, better known as “Biker Jim,” has had a rollercoaster of a few years. Since 2005, he’s become a beloved figure in Denver’s foodie scene, winning over fans with unique hot dog creations. However, his journey took a sharp turn last summer when a partnership went awry, causing him to step away from the brand he built.

Now, Jim is back and ready to kick off a new chapter. He’ll be reopening Biker Jim’s at Avanti Denver next month. “After everything that’s happened, I was hesitant about opening a full restaurant,” he explains. Avanti offers him the perks of a traditional space without the hefty startup costs and city regulations.

Avanti has been buzzing with updates, including the recent launch of Berliner House, and Jim’s spot will replace the current tenant, Eloise. His upcoming stall will not only feature his famed sausages but also exciting brunch options and desserts. “I’ve been having fun developing new items,” he says.

Among his new creations are a coffee and cream cake, a savory Dutch baby pancake, and even chicken and waffle cones. However, he admits training staff for these new dishes will require a bit more finesse. “You’ll see me a lot there in the first few months,” he chuckles.

Recent statistics show that the food truck and pop-up restaurant scene has boomed in Denver, with a reported 20% increase since the pandemic, according to the Colorado Restaurant Association. This trend highlights the city’s embrace of flexible dining options, making Avanti a smart choice for his return.

In the meantime, Jim’s been busy serving up sausages at markets and events. “I really enjoy the Convention Center gigs,” he shares. “It’s refreshing to break away from the daily grind of a restaurant.”

Excited about his new location, Jim says, “I can’t wait to reconnect with my fans. It’s going to be great!”

Biker Jim’s Bikers and Bakers will open at Avanti Denver, 3200 Pecos Street. Visit avantifandb.com for more details.
