Exciting News: Carson Wentz to Lead Vikings as Starting Quarterback This Thursday!

J.J. McCarthy won’t be playing this week. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed in his press conference that Carson Wentz will start against the Chargers in Los Angeles. McCarthy is still recovering from a sprained ankle that has kept him out for the last four games.

O’Connell mentioned that while both he and the medical team are optimistic about McCarthy’s progress, he just isn’t ready yet. “If it were a Sunday game, we might have handled it differently,” he said. With the Thursday game approaching and travel involved, there wasn’t enough time to push his recovery.

Wentz will take the lead, with Max Brosmer as the backup and McCarthy available in case of an emergency. O’Connell is hopeful that McCarthy will continue to improve and might be back next week as they prepare for a longer break before facing the Lions.

In Wentz’s four games this season, he’s completed 67% of his passes, totaling 1,072 yards with five touchdowns but also four interceptions. Comparatively, McCarthy had a 58.5% completion rate in his two-week performance, with 301 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Injuries like McCarthy’s can significantly impact a team’s season. Studies show that around 70% of NFL players struggle with injuries throughout the season, affecting performance and team dynamics. As the Vikings look toward their upcoming games, finding a rhythm with their current quarterbacks will be crucial.
