While Bungie’s new game, Marathon, is grabbing headlines, the studio wants fans to remember that Destiny 2 is still going strong. They’ve announced exciting plans for Destiny 2, including a brand-new storyline that kicks off with a paid expansion, The Edge of Fate, coming soon.
Last September, Bungie hinted at a big change in how they release content. Instead of one large expansion each year, they will now deliver two medium-sized expansions annually. This shift begins in July with the release of the Year of Prophecy.
The conclusion of the Light and Dark Saga has set the stage for Destiny 2’s next major story, called the Fate Saga. Bungie describes this as the beginning of an intricate journey full of mysteries. Each new expansion will provide answers to the questions raised, allowing for quicker storytelling.
The Edge of Fate invites players to explore Kepler, a new destination built for adventure. Fans can expect a mix of puzzles, secrets, and a rich environment to discover. This expansion introduces new enemies, weapons, and abilities, including a unique skill that lets Guardians alter their forms for navigation, reminiscent of the Morph Ball from the Metroid series.
With The Edge of Fate, a new season, Reclamation, kicks off, along with a free update for all players. This update includes fresh events and challenges. It also brings a new activity selection feature called The Portal, making it easier to jump into various game modes.
An exciting free content drop is slated for September 9, titled Ash & Iron, which promises significant updates. Following that, on December 2, Bungie will release Renegades, a second paid expansion that will combine elements of Destiny 2 with the beloved Star Wars universe. This expansion will add new dungeons and characters, creating a fresh gameplay experience.
The final update for the Year of Prophecy, Shadow & Order, will arrive on March 3 next year. For fans interested in the expansions, pre-orders are currently available across major platforms like PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Bungie’s commitment to Destiny 2 shows their dedication to long-term support and storytelling. The community eagerly anticipates how these new expansions will enrich the game. Gamers are buzzing on social media, eagerly sharing their theories and excitement about the forthcoming content.
