A new Disney theme park is set to open soon on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. This exciting project is part of a partnership with Miral, a company focused on immersive experiences. While Disney won’t be pouring money into the park, they will oversee its creative design and operations, earning royalties along the way.
Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed enthusiasm about this development, highlighting the rich culture of Abu Dhabi and its connection to art and creativity. He described the park as a blend of modern architecture and cutting-edge technology that will provide guests with unique entertainment experiences. Although the exact opening date is still a mystery, Iger shared that Disney’s imagineers are already hard at work on the design.
This announcement comes as Disney recently reported positive financial growth, particularly in its parks and experiences division, which saw a 6% increase in revenue compared to last year.
Interestingly, about a third of the global population lives within a four-hour flight from the UAE, which has a tourism market of approximately 500 million visitors. This location makes it a strategic choice for Disney as they expand further into the UAE. The new park aims to welcome families from new regions, introducing them to the magic of Disney.
Yas Island is known for its entertainment offerings, including Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. Adding a Disney park to this vibrant destination promises to enhance the overall experience for visitors.
In terms of innovation, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney experiences, referred to this park as a "groundbreaking resort destination." The integration of themed accommodations, dining, and shopping will offer guests a fresh perspective on Disney storytelling, all while reflecting the essence of Abu Dhabi.
