Northern Kentucky University has named Brandon Thompson, Ed.D., as its new vice president of Student Affairs. With 15 years of experience in higher education, Thompson is set to improve the student experience at NKU, whether students are learning in person or online.

NKU Provost Diana McGill spoke highly of Thompson, stating, “Brandon’s commitment to student success and holistic support embodies the leadership we need at this crucial time in higher education. His passion for engaging with students will be beneficial as we work to enhance the NKU experience.”
Before joining NKU, Thompson was the Associate Dean of Student Engagement at the University of Kentucky. There, he supervised various programs, including Fraternity and Sorority Life, Religious and Spiritual Life, and Student Organizations. He also established the Office of Family and Civic Engagement in January 2025. Thompson has held multiple roles in student life at institutions such as Eastern Kentucky University, Kansas State University, East Carolina University, and Eastern Illinois University.
Thompson expressed his excitement about his new role, saying, “I am honored to join NKU and build on the great work already happening to make the institution student-ready. I look forward to working together across campus to support our mission.” He emphasized the importance of leadership that focuses on student success and well-being, influenced by his mentors and the significance of collaboration in achieving goals.
Thompson holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Eastern Kentucky University, along with a Master of Science in College Student Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Eastern Illinois University.
