Duke Health is taking a big step forward by starting construction on a new hospital in Cary, North Carolina. This new facility is aimed at meeting the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing community.
The hospital will cover over 110,000 square feet. It’s designed to include a free-standing emergency department, an ambulatory surgical center with six operating rooms, and four gastrointestinal endoscopy rooms. There will also be 30,000 square feet dedicated to clinical infusion space. They’ve received approval to add forty hospital beds to the facility.
Craig Albanese, M.D., the CEO of Duke University Health System, emphasized the importance of this project. He said, “We strive to provide hope, health, and healing by bringing high-quality care closer to where our patients live and work.” This commitment to local healthcare is essential, especially as communities grow.
The expansion will also create job opportunities for around 1,600 people, contributing significantly to the local economy. The project is expected to be completed by 2027, with costs estimated in the hundreds of millions.
Interestingly, this isn’t just about building a hospital. It reflects a broader trend in healthcare. As populations increase, more facilities are being built to keep up with demand. Nationwide, hospitals are looking to enhance their services and accessibility, which is crucial for improving health outcomes.
In recent surveys, a significant percentage of people expressed the need for better local healthcare options. The trend shows that as communities expand, the call for nearby medical services increases.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. this Thursday at Duke Health Cary, located at 100 Duke Health Cary Place in Cary, NC. The community is buzzing with excitement about what this new facility will bring, and WRAL is working to provide updates and visuals of the upcoming hospital.
