Exciting News: Expanded Food Pantry Dates from Crossroads and Food Bank for the Heartland – Don’t Miss Out!

Hastings, NE – Crossroads Mission Avenue and Food Bank for the Heartland have announced new mobile food pantry dates in Broken Bow for Spring 2026.

Due to increasing needs, there will now be five food distributions in Custer County. These events will occur at the Custer County Fairgrounds on:

  • February 21
  • April 4
  • May 16
  • June 13

The mobile pantry will start at 9:00 AM and run until supplies run out.

Crossroads Mission Avenue started these distributions in 2025 and has seen a notable rise in the number of elderly individuals seeking assistance. Their partnership with Food Bank for the Heartland plays a crucial role in meeting this demand. Kerry Heaton, from the Food Bank, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. “With more people needing help, especially in rural areas, we’re grateful to work with Crossroads to provide nutritious food during these tough times.”

Crossroads’ mission extends beyond just food. They aim to provide help to those dealing with homelessness by addressing basic needs. This support can prevent people from losing their homes.

With the support of the community and Food Bank for the Heartland, Crossroads has already given out over 16,000 food boxes this year. Additionally, they offer clothing and household goods through their Thrift Stores, providing over $75,000 in essentials to more than 2,300 individuals in Central Nebraska.

Daniel Buller, Executive Director of Crossroads, noted the urgent need for extra food supplies in Custer County. “We see a lot of elderly folks, including a 93-year-old man, at our distributions. It really tugs at my heart. We asked Food Bank for more dates, and they came through for us.”

As hunger continues to be a pressing issue, community initiatives like this are vital. The increased number of distributions is a step forward in ensuring everyone has access to food.

Details for the second half of 2026 will be provided later. Remember, the Crossroads Mission Avenue food pantry welcomes everyone, no barriers.
