This significant moment for skydiving was confirmed during the 2025 FAI Skydiving Commission Annual Meeting.
FAI President Greg Principato praised the new discipline, stating:
“The initiative of the FAI Skydiving Commission to create a Para Skydiving discipline is important and welcomed. Air sports inspire pride wherever they are practiced. Making air sports more accessible is vital, and this is a historic step forward. I look forward to seeing competitors achieve amazing feats.“
How do Indoor Para Skydiving competitions work?
The exact rules are still being finalized, but the main idea is simple. During a competition, flyers will race to touch electronic pads placed on the tunnel walls in a specific order. The goal is to complete the sequence in the shortest time possible. Competitors have a maximum of 75 seconds, or 150 seconds in the final rounds.
A bit about Indoor Para Skydiving
Indoor skydiving has transformed the sport in recent years. The FAI welcomed this innovation, leading to the first World Championships in 2015. Indoor Para Skydiving started in France, created by the French Parachute Federation (FFP) to include athletes with special needs. The sport gained further support in 2022 when it received €500,000 from the EU Erasmus programme.
