Square Enix has exciting news for fans! Final Fantasy 14 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this August, and players can enjoy a month of early access for free. However, you’ll need a separate subscription for the Switch version. No worries about a Nintendo Switch Online membership; that’s not necessary. Plus, if you already play on other platforms, you can snag a 50% discount on the subscription for the Switch 2.
This announcement was made during the Fan Festival event, where they also teased an intriguing crossover with Evangelion. And for those looking ahead, the next chapter of the game, titled Evercold, will launch in January 2027.
For newcomers, this version of Final Fantasy 14 includes three stellar titles: the base game, A Realm Reborn, and two expansions—Heavensward and Stormblood.
With over 30 million players worldwide, the game offers an expansive world full of thrilling stories, battles, and stunning environments. You can team up with friends or play alone, joining forces with NPC allies when needed.
In Heavensward, you’ll explore Ishgard, a land caught in a constant battle with dragons. You can also try out three new jobs: the Astrologian, who uses celestial spells to heal; the Machinist, who attacks from a distance; and the Dark Knight, who wields a powerful greatsword.
Then in Stormblood, you’ll journey to the East to confront the Garlean Empire. The new jobs here include the Red Mage, who blends martial and magical skills, and the Samurai, an elegant fighter with a katana.
This fresh release aligns with a growing trend of game crossovers and character expansions, reflecting the gaming community’s appetite for innovative storytelling and gameplay. As technology advances, players seek rich experiences that blend favorite franchises in unexpected ways. Games like Final Fantasy 14 exemplify this trend, combining traditional role-play elements with modern gameplay.
