Exciting News for St. Louis CITY SC: Yoann Damet Named Head Coach!

St. Louis CITY SC has a new head coach: Yoann Damet. He brings a wealth of experience to the team, having spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Columbus Crew. There, he contributed to the team’s recent success, helping them win the MLS Cup in 2023 and the Leagues Cup in 2024. Before that, he was on the coaching staff at LA Galaxy and stepped in as interim head coach at FC Cincinnati two times.

Sporting Director Corey Wray believes Damet is a great fit for the team. He describes him as ambitious and a strong communicator. Wray emphasizes that Damet’s experience with successful coaches and teams will help him bring out the best in the players. He aims to enhance the club’s competitive spirit with a proactive playing style.

Damet, just 35 years old, has about 20 years of coaching experience. His journey started at a young age in France, coaching youth teams before making his way to North America. He joined CF Montreal Academy in 2014, where he began to establish his reputation.

In 2017, he became an assistant coach for FC Cincinnati. Remarkably, he became the youngest head coach in MLS history at age 29, winning his debut match. After a stint with LA Galaxy II, he transitioned to the first team, where he excelled under head coach Greg Vanney.

Damet expressed excitement about joining St. Louis CITY SC. He looks forward to fostering an environment that the fans and community can be proud of. His goal is to create an entertaining style of soccer that resonates with supporters.

Looking ahead, St. Louis CITY SC is gearing up for its 2026 MLS season opener against Charlotte FC on February 21 at Energizer Park. Fans can purchase tickets online.

This leadership change aligns with a growing trend in MLS, where assistant coaches are stepping up to head coach roles successfully. For instance, coaches like David Beckerman and Caleb Porter transitioned similarly with great results. It’s a dynamic time in the league, with new strategies and styles influencing the way teams compete.

As the season approaches, the excitement around the team and its new direction under Damet continues to grow.
