Hello, Aggie Family,

I wanted to follow up on a recent issue we’ve been facing in one of our courses. I have decided to remove the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Head of the English Department from their positions. After carefully reviewing the facts, I also terminated the professor involved, effective immediately.

Here’s what happened: this summer, a children’s literature course included material that didn’t match what we normally expect. After the issue was raised, we tried to offer alternative options for students and made sure the content would change for future semesters. I emphasized that course content must be accurate and reflective of what our catalog describes.

Unfortunately, despite this guidance, the college continued to teach material that strayed from its course description this fall. Because of this, I took the aforementioned actions, and we’re now conducting a thorough audit of all course offerings to ensure they align with what’s advertised.

Our course catalog is crucial for students when choosing classes for their degrees. If we deviate from that, we risk losing their trust. This issue isn’t about academic freedom; it’s about responsibility. Our programs undergo strict approval processes, and we need to deliver what we promised.
