Exciting News: Georgia Southern University’s Botanic Garden to Open Its Doors on Saturdays for the First Time Ever!

The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern University is opening its doors to the public on Saturdays for the very first time! Starting March 22, 2025, visitors can explore the garden every Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Admission costs $5, while garden members and students with IDs can enter for free.

Located in the heart of Statesboro, this beautiful garden covers over 11 acres. It features an array of native plants, heirloom varieties, and exotic flora. The garden also includes walking paths and educational exhibits that highlight the land’s history as part of the old farmstead of Dan and Catharine Bland.

As part of the new Saturday offerings, guests can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy among the stunning surroundings. A bird walk will start at 10 AM, giving visitors a chance to connect with nature. Though the new pollinator garden is still in progress, attendees can get a sneak peek of this exciting project.

Local garden clubs are partnering with the garden to help enhance the visitor experience. Clubs such as Weed & Wilt, Brooklet, Hoe & Hope, Evergreen, Spade & Trowel, Camellia, and Sprig N’ Dig will provide member volunteers each week to welcome guests at the entrance.

According to Todd Beasley, the Director of the Botanic Garden, “We are excited to offer Saturday hours! This garden is a wonderful spot for anyone who loves nature. We’re grateful for our local garden clubs; their support has made this expansion possible.”

Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours, seasonal plant showcases, and various educational programs throughout the year. One popular offering is the Gather and Grow series, which focuses on gardening-related topics and will now take place in the evenings as well.

The garden will still be open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sundays from 12 PM to 5 PM, making it easier for everyone to access its beauty.
