LEBANON — The Health Closet is on the move! This organization, which provides medical equipment for free, is relocating to 2 Mascoma St. in downtown Lebanon. The new space was previously home to theater company Revels North, which closed its doors in late 2025.
The building also includes popular spots like Sunrise Buffet and Pellegrino’s Italian Market and is owned by Mike Davidson, who is eager to support local initiatives.
“Mike and his company have been incredibly generous,” said William “Star” Johnson from the Hanover Lions Club. The Health Closet is working on a three-year lease for the new location, although the rent details remain private.
“We’re excited to welcome the Health Closet,” said Tim Sidore, managing agent for Recreo LLC. “This venture shows our commitment to improving downtown and enhancing life for everyone here.”
The Health Closet is moving from its current location at 325 Mount Support Road, where they must leave by March 15. Their previous space was temporarily offered by Hypertherm, which is making way for a new charter school. The search for a new home began last fall, aiming for a spot with enough room for hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other medical supplies.
The new location offers approximately 2,400 square feet, a loading dock, and easy access—ideal for transporting equipment across the Twin States. “It’s almost perfect,” said John Bayliss, a member overseeing the Health Closet program.
This initiative has roots going back almost 40 years when it was just a project of caring Lions Club members. Over the years, the program has grown, with rising demand for the medical equipment it offers. There was a real worry that, without a new home, the collection would scatter into various garages.
With this new space, the Health Closet can better organize and serve the community. Volunteers plan to set up shelves and improve the overall structure of the operation. People can visit during open hours, generally from 9 a.m. to noon, or arrange for equipment drop-offs and pickups directly with the organizers.
“I am thrilled for the Health Closet,” said Helen Hong, the executive director of COVER Home Repair & Store. She has been a key part of the effort to find the new location and feels this move highlights community unity. “It’s great to see everyone coming together for a vital resource.”
Along with the new location, organizers are forming a separate Lions Club focused exclusively on the Health Closet. They’ve already recruited nearly 40 members, many new to the Lions Club but motivated by personal experiences or backgrounds in medicine. “These people understand our mission,” said Bayliss. “It’s inspiring.”
Future plans include organizing volunteer schedules for deliveries, easing the workload on Bailless and his co-organizer. “I’m blown away by the support we’ve received,” he added. “We’re excited to get started!”
