Dr. R. Heath Keller, a proud native of Hopkinsville, has been appointed as the dean of Murray State University’s Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business. He expressed his excitement, stating he looks forward to representing and supporting the talented students, faculty, and staff at the college. His aim is to uphold its reputation for excellence as they move forward together.
Keller oversees several departments, including Accounting, Computer Science and Information Systems, Economics and Finance, Journalism and Mass Communications, Management, Marketing and Business Administration, and Organizational Communication and Leadership.
His appointment was confirmed during a Board of Regents meeting on December 12. Keller has been serving as the interim dean since January and previously held the position of department chair for Management, Marketing, and Business Administration since August 2017. He earned his doctorate from Southern Illinois University in 2011 and joined Murray State as an assistant professor. In 2016, he was recognized with the Regents Award for Teaching Excellence.
Keller’s local roots run deep; he attended Hopkinsville High School. His family remains in the area, with his parents active in the community and his sister leading the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County.
This transition comes at a time when many universities are focusing on innovation in education. A recent report from the National Center for Education Statistics highlighted that enrollment in business programs has been steadily increasing, with a 10% rise over the last five years. Keller’s leadership is expected to enhance the college’s offerings, preparing students for a dynamic job market shaped by technology and global challenges.
Experts believe that strong leadership in business education can significantly influence student success. As educational demands evolve, Keller’s vision for the college will likely play a crucial role in how effectively students are prepared for future careers.
