Exciting News: Intermountain Health Launches New Clinic and Cancer Center in Saratoga Springs!

Intermountain Health recently broke ground on a new multi-specialty clinic in Saratoga Springs, set to feature a dedicated cancer center for the residents of northern Utah County. This facility will not only house a cancer center but will also offer a variety of specialized services like OB/GYN care, gastroenterology, audiology, urology, cardiology, and pediatrics.

The cancer center aims to provide comprehensive care, including chemotherapy and support services. These services will encompass crucial survivorship programs, including oncology social workers and nurse navigators, who help patients navigate their treatments and manage expectations through this challenging journey.

Currently, patients in northern Utah County must travel up to 50 miles to access cancer treatment, leading to stress and additional burdens. Desiree Dougherty, who leads the service line for Intermountain Health, emphasized the importance of local care, stating, “Carrying the burden of cancer is hard. Bringing care close to home allows patients to be with their families during treatments.”

Laurie and Scott Stone, a couple affected by cancer, spoke at the groundbreaking event. Laurie’s uterine cancer diagnosis in 2022 required her to travel for important treatments. After extensive procedures, she completed her treatment and now looks forward to celebrating being cancer-free. Tragically, Scott received his own cancer diagnosis shortly after. They expressed gratitude for the care they received, highlighting the relief that the new cancer center, located just five miles from their home, will bring to their community.

The clinic’s establishment comes at a time when northern Utah County is rapidly growing. Saratoga Springs has seen its population surge to over 59,000, nearly double since 2018. Neighboring Eagle Mountain is expected to grow to around 80,000 by 2029.

Dr. Brandon Barney, the medical director of radiation oncology, shared the clinic’s vision: a personal, healing environment equipped with the latest technology. He noted that patients would have access to advanced treatments typically available only in larger cities.

This new clinic will be located at 392 W. Medical Drive and is expected to open in fall 2026. The community eagerly anticipates this development, as it promises to enhance local access to critical healthcare services.

In addition to improving healthcare access, it’s worth noting that studies show local treatment options can significantly reduce stress for patients, underlining the importance of initiatives like this one. A recent survey indicated that over 70% of cancer patients prefer receiving treatment close to home for both convenience and emotional support.

As this clinic prepares to open, it stands as a beacon of hope for many families in the area, demonstrating a commitment to patient-centered care.
