LAS VEGAS – Intermountain Health has picked two architect firms, Shepley Bulfinch and Gensler, to design a new children’s hospital in southern Nevada. This announcement follows the location reveal at UNLV’s Harry Reid Research and Technology Park last month.
“We’re excited to have these two firms on board,” said Lawrence Barnard, who oversees Pediatrics in Nevada for Intermountain Health. “Both have strong experience in healthcare design. Our aim is to provide essential specialty care to children right here in Nevada.”
Shepley Bulfinch and Gensler are committed to creating a hospital that benefits both patients and their families. Their patient-centered approach ensures a welcoming space for everyone involved, including clinicians and staff.
Shepley Bulfinch specializes in pediatric healthcare design. They focus on how spaces can improve the experiences of children, from toddlers to teenagers. The firm has worked on numerous healthcare projects, including 4 million square feet dedicated to pediatric facilities. Their designs aim to enhance patient outcomes while also fostering a supportive environment for families.
“Our designs will help ease anxiety and stress,” shared Andre Kamili, a principal at Shepley Bulfinch. “We want to create a playful yet comforting atmosphere for families in Las Vegas.”
Candra Mathis, Managing Director at Gensler Las Vegas, added, “This hospital is more than just a facility; it’s a chance to explore new ideas in pediatric care.” She noted the importance of improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for children.
Barnard further emphasized the need for this hospital, stating, “Families facing health challenges shouldn’t have to travel far for quality care. This facility means Nevada’s children will have comprehensive care close to home.”
While construction is important, Intermountain has been planning this project for years. They have focused on clinical planning, workforce strategies, and children’s health initiatives to ensure success.
Intermountain Health is not new to caring for children; they operate two successful children’s hospitals in Utah. In southern Nevada, they provide care across more than 65 clinic locations, serving around 350,000 residents in Clark and Nye counties.
